Advocacy in Action: OAMTA Delivers a Major Win for Ohio EMS

The Board of the OAMTA is happy to report on the successful advocacy efforts to ensure that the ambulance and medical transportation industry is not subjected to additional oversight burdens as originally proposed in Ohio’s House Bill 795.

Thanks to vigorous lobbying on behalf of the Association, we were able to ensure that companies licensed by the state EMFTS Board as emergency and nonemergency medical service organizations are exempted from the costly GPS monitoring and additional claims cross checking and fraud detection processes by the Department of Medicaid.

Our Association fully supports the state’s efforts to address waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medicaid system but we are extremely grateful that Ohio’s policymakers realized that our members are already subject to robust requirements and oversight and are an integral part of the healthcare system in the state. Requirements for nonemergency medical transportation providers not licensed by the EMFTS board were passed by the legislature in Senate Bill 315, the pilot program is required to launch within 12 months of the bill’s effective date and full compliance within 18 months.

Your membership allows OAMTA effectively lobby on behalf of our entire industry and protect our business interests before Ohio’s policymakers.  If you’d like to be more engaged in our advocacy efforts, please reach out to our contract lobbyist, Lauren Huddleston (lauren@neaconsultingohio.com).
